Anushka Sharma is one of the most admired celebrities, her recent movie Chakda 'Xpress is about to be released soon.
She approached the Bombay high court with petitions against the state and the commissioner of sales tax authority.
To challenge the department's March 2021 order asking her to pay more than Rs 1.2 crore dues for the assessment year 2012-13.
She urged the high court to cancel the order of the state tax department, saying that she is not being taxed as a performer.
In her petition, submitted by her attorney, Sharma said the rate applied to him was higher than average tax rate for actors.
The bench of Justices gave the department two weeks’ time to respond and posted the hearing on 6th February.
