Highlights of the 7th ‘Britain Meets India’ Report
As per the 7th edition of ‘Britain Meets India’ Report, the inflow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from United Kingdom to India increased from $ 898 million in 2015-16 to $ 1,422 million in 2019-20. The report has been prepared by Grant Thornton Bharat and UK’s Department of International Trade in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The report reveals that most of the FDIs have been done in the UK-based companies in Maharashtra followed by Haryana, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka. Around 572 companies from UK are currently operational in India employing nearly 4,16,121 people in India.

UNEP’s Assessment shows triple threat to human health due environmental degradation
‘Making Peace with Nature’ Assessment has been released by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). The assessment report says that Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss and Pollution are posing triple threat to the human health as a result of environmental degradation. The assessment emphasizes on urgent adoption of renewable sources of energy and prevention of habitat loss for saving the future generations from several risks. Robert Watson and Ivar A Baste are the main authors of the assessment report. The report also revealed that the global mean temperature will be 3◦C above the pr-industrial era by the year 2100.

India accounts for 11 % of global deaths in road accidents, says the World Bank Report
As per the ‘Traffic Crash Injuries and Disabilities: The Burden on Indian Society’ Report, India accounts for 11 % of the total global deaths occurred due to road accidents. The report also revealed that India has 1 % of the total vehicles in the world and accounts for 6 % of the total global road accidents. The report was released by the World Bank in collaboration with Save LIFE Foundation (SLF). As per the report, 4.5 lakh road accidents take place in India every year in which 1.5 lakh people die.

India’s energy consumption to get doubled by 2040, says IEA’s 2021 Report
As per the ‘India Energy Outlook 2021’, India will surpass European Union (EU) to become the world’s 3rd biggest consumer of energy by 2030. The report released by International Energy Agency (IEA) that India’s energy consumption will be double by 2040 and the GDP will expand to $ 8.6 trillion. The report suggests Indian government to spend $ 1.4 trillion in adoption of clean energy technologies in the upcoming 20 years. India’s oil demand is expected to reach 8.7 million barrels per day by 2040 whereas its refining capacity will increase to 604 million barrels per day.

Gist of RBI’s Banking Ombudsman Annual Report 2019-20
As per the Annual Report of the ‘Ombudsman Schemes of the Reserve Bank for the year 2019-20’, there has been a 387 % increment in the complaints against the Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC’s). The Annual Report has been released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) based on the complaints received by the Office of Banking Ombudsman (OBOS) from 1st July, 2019 to 30th June, 2020. The report also reveals that the complaints against the irregularities of the banks have increased by 57.54 %. Around 85.65 % complaints against NBFCs and Banks were filed electronically.

Number of new cancer patients in North East is expected to reach 57,131 by 2025, says the ICMR-NCDIR Report
According to the ‘Profile of Cancer and Related Health Indicators in the North East Region of India-2021’ report, the number of new cases of cancer in the North East Region (NER) is expected to increase from 50,317 to 57,131 by 2025. The report has been prepared by Indian Council of Medical Research- National Centre for Disease Informatics & Research (ICMR-NCDIR) under the funding of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The report has been prepared with an aim to estimate cancer cases in advance for developing comprehensive cancer prevention and control plan for the NER.

India ranks 53rd in the Democracy Index 2020
India has been ranked 53rd among 167 countries in the Democracy Index 2020 released by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). India was ranked 51st in the Democracy Index 2019. Norway secured the 1st place with an Index score of 9.81 followed by Iceland and Sweden with 9.37 and 9.26 index points respectively. India’s score is 6.61 index points. North Korea, Congo and Central African Republic have been placed at the bottom. The Index is based on 5 categories- Civil liberty, Political Culture, Political Participation, Functioning of Government and Electoral Process & Pluralism.

Shravasti District of UP topped the NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Districts Ranking in December, 2021
Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh has secured the 1st rank in the Aspirational Districts Ranking- December, 2020 released by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog. Dhalai District of Tripura secured the 2nd place followed by Garhwa of Jharkhand and Baksa of Assam. The ranking was based on basic infrastructure, skill development, financial inclusion, agriculture and water resources, education, health and nutrition etc. The Aspirational Districts Ranking was launched in January, 2018.

India ranked 86th in the COVID Performance Index
As per the ‘COVID Performance Index’ released by the Lowy Institute in Australia, India has been placed at the 86th position among 98 countries. As per the Index, New Zealand secured the 1st place followed by Vietnam and Taiwan. Lowy Institute excluded China from the Index due to non-discluosure of data related to COVID-19 testing. Sri Lanka topped among the South Asian nations and has been placed at the 10th position. The COVID Performance Index was based on 6 indicators that included tests per 1000 people, confirmed cases in relation with tests, confirmed deaths, confirmed cases, confirmed deaths per million people and confirmed cases per million people.
WeChat tops the Brand Finance’s Global 500 list of 2021, Reliance Jio comes 5th
China-based messaging app ‘WeChat’ has topped the Global 500 list of 2021 released by Brand Finance. WeChat scored a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 95.4 out of 100. Reliance Jio entered the rankings for the first time and secured 5th rank with BSI Score of 91.7 and AAA+ Rating in the list of the strongest brands in the world. Ferrari has been placed at the 2nd position in the list with a BSI score of 93.9 followed by Russia-based Sber bank and Coca-Cola with BSI scores of 92.0 and 91.7 respectively.
