Haryana CM announces welfare schemes on Ravidas Jayanti

Haryana’s Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar has announced 4 welfare schemes to mark the occasion of 644th Birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas. The newly announced schemes have been aimed towards the people belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL). The schemes will increase the income of the BPL families by at least Rs. 8000 to Rs. 9000. The welfare schemes are – Mukhyamantri Antyodaya Parivar Utthan Yojana, Dr BR Ambedkar Awas Navinikarn Yojana, Sant Mahapurush Vichar Samman and Prasaar Yojana.

Uttarakhand Government launches ‘Gharoki Paachan, Chelik Naam’ Scheme

The Government of Uttarakhand has launched ‘Gharoki Paachan, Chelik Naam’ Scheme to promote women empowerment in the state. The program was officially launched by Uttarakhand CM, Trivendra Singh Rawat. The name of the scheme means ‘Daughter’s name is home’s identity’. The scheme has been implemented in Nainital district on pilot basis and it tends to be implemented in the entire state in the near future. Several developmental schemes were also launched for the beautification of famous places of Nainital.  

Mumbai to get India’s 1st Undersea Tunnel by 2023

Two under-sea tunnels will become operational in Mumbai by 2023. These 2.07 km long under-sea tunnels are a part of 10.58 km long Mumbai’s Coastal Road Project. It is India’s 1st under-sea tunnel. Out of 2.07 km, 1 km will be 20 m below the seabed connecting North and South Mumbai. The tunnel will use first-of-its kind ‘Saccardo’ ventilation system. The tunnel will be a toll-free path which will significantly reduce traffic.

Jai Ram Thakur launches ‘e-Parivahan Vyavastha’ service in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh CM, Jai Ram Thakur has launched the ‘e-Parivahan Vyavastha’ service in the state. It will be administered by the State Transportation Department. This will enable faceless services on Registration Certificates, Driving License, Insurance, Permits etc. Similar services like e-Vidhan Sabha, e-Cabinet and e-Budget have been launched for the citizens of Himachal Pradesh for their easy access. Jai Ram Thakur said that the individuals of the state should be educated for availing these services easily from the comfort of their home.

Government of Odisha launches services related to WCD’s 5T initiative and Mission Shakti

Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik has launched various online services of Women & Child Development (WCD) Department and Mission Shakti under 5T initiative. Applications and Services like Mo-Chhatua App, e-Kalika, Mo Sishu Portal and MIS & MAMATA App. WCD has also collaborated with several organizations and institutions like Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Indian Council of Medical Research-Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR-RMRC), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations World Food Programme (UNFWP).

Andhra Pradesh government signs MoU with SIDBI for developing MSME ecosystem

Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MoU with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for developing an ecosystem for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. Under the MoU, a Project Management Unit will be established by SIDBI for the formulation of schemes and planning of programmes related to interest subvention, equity support and resolution of stressed MSMEs. SIDBI will study the existing initiatives, schemes, interventions and projects available for supporting the MSMEs and will suggest corrective measures if required.

Uttar Pradesh gets its 3rd licensed International Airport at Kushinagar

 Kushinagar International Airport in Kushinagar District has received the 4C license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). It has become the 3rd licensed international airport of the state after Chowdhury Charan Singh International Airport (Lucknow) and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (Varanasi). The airport will administer domestic as well as international flights. The new airport will promoted tourism and global connectivity of the state. Government of Uttar Pradesh is also looking forward to complete the proposed airports at Jewar and Ayodhya.

17th India International Mega Trade Fair 2021 commences in Odisha

The 17th edition of India International Mega Trade Fair 2021 is being hosted by Odisha. The event has been scheduled from 19th February to 1st March, 2021 at the Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar. The fair has been organized by the Odisha Chapter of the Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) in partnership with Bihar government and Government of Bangladesh. The countries in focus are Iran and Afghanistan. The fair was inaugurated by Law Minister of Odisha, Pratap Jena. The latest developments in the field of real estate are being showcased at the fair.   

World Bank and GoI to implement education improvement programme in Nagaland

Government of India and World Bank has signed a project worth US $ 68 million for the improving the quality of education of Nagaland. The project has been named as ‘Nagaland: Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources Project’. This will benefit around 1,50,000 students of Nagaland. The project will also work on improving the teaching methods of around 20,000 teachers in the state. This will be a golden opportunity for the teachers of the state to develop their professional skills.

Tamil Nadu gets the largest cattle park of Asia

The largest cattle park of Asia named as ‘Advanced Institute for Integrated Research on Livestock and Animal Sciences’ (AIIRLAS) has been inaugurated at Thalaivasal, Salem of Tamil Nadu. The park was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu CM, Eddapaddi K Palaniswami. The park has been constructed over an area of 1100 acres and has been established at a cost of Rs. 1023 crores and is the 5th veterinary college of the state. Establishment of frozen semen station was also announced by the CM during the inauguration ceremony.

Assam CM inaugurates Centre for Perishable Cargo at the LGBI Airport

Assam CM, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated Centre for Perishable Cargo at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, Guwahati of Assam by flagging off a 600 kg-consignment of vegetables as an export cargo. Assam’s State Minister for Transport, Chandra Mohan Patowary also attended the inauguration ceremony. The Center for Perishable Cargo (CPC) has been established at a cost of Rs. 19.84 crores. Sarbananda Sonowal also launched the ‘Uberization Scheme’ for promoting the transport sector in Assam. The Uberization Scheme will be implemented by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC).

Kerala gets the 1st Digital University of India

India’s 1st digital university named ‘Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (KUDSIT) has been set up at Technocity, Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala. The university is an upgradation of 20 years old Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IITM-K). It was virtually inaugurated by the Governor Kerala, Arif Mohammed Khan. The aim of the university is to utilize the developments in digital technology for social progress for all individuals.  The university will have 5 schools offering Masters-Level programmes.

MP’s Hoshangabad will now be called as ‘Narmadapuram’

Hoshangabad city of Madhya Pradesh will be officially renamed as ‘Narmadapuram’. The announcement was made by Madhya Pradesh CM, Shivraj Singh Chauhan during the Narmada Jayanti held at Hoshangabad to pay tribute to Narmada River. The proposal for renaming Hoshangabad has been sent to the Central Government. Narmada is the one of the major rivers of Madhya Pradesh that flows through Jhabua, Omkareshwar and Jabalpur.

IKEA to invest Rs. 5500 crores in Uttar Pradesh in the next 5 years

Swedish furniture and home applications company, IKEA has signed an MoU with the Government of Uttar Pradesh for investing Rs. 5500 crores in the state in the next 5 years. UP government has already allocated 47,833 m2 of land in Noida for setting up IKEA outlet. The proposed outlet will be the biggest IKEA outlet in the world. A total of Rs. 850 crores will be paid by IKEA to the Government of UP along with a stamp duty of Rs. 56 crores. The outlet will start functioning from 2025. The company also intends to set up 3 major outlets in Central UP and Purvanchal.   

PM Modi lays foundation stone of key projects in Kerala

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of Smart Roads Project and Integrated Command and Control Centre in Thiruvanathapuram virtually. He also inaugurated Pugalur – Thrissur Power Transmission Project, Water Treatment Plant at Aruvikkara and Kasargod Solar Power Project in Kerala. Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister of State for Power, New and Renewable Energy, Raj Kumar Singh and Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri were also present in the virtual conference.

Punjab Cabinet approves ‘Lal Lakir’ Mission

Cabinet of Punjab led by Punjab CM, Captain Amrinder Singh has approved the ‘Lal Lakir’ mission for enabling the villagers of Punjab to monetize their property rights and avail benefits provided by various government institutions, departments and banks. Lands which are under village habitation and if they are used for non-agricultural purposes will be categorized under Lal Lakir. Earlier, the sale deeds of these lands were not allowed to be registered and could only be sold via transfer of Power of Attorney. The record of the properties will be prepared under Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SWAMITVA).

PM Modi lays foundation stones for 2 bridges in Assam

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi laid two foundation stones for Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge and Majuli Bridge in Assam virtually. 19.282 km long Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge on its completion will become the longest bridge of India connecting Dhubri, Assam and Phulbari, Meghalaya across the Brahmaputra River. The 8-km long Majuli Bridge will be a two-lane bridge across River Brahmaputra connecting Neematighat and Kamalabari, Assam. PM Modi also launched ‘Mahabahu-Brahmaputra’ Programme for strengthening water connectivity of the region through the Barak and Brahmaputra rivers. Ro-Pax vessel operations have been launched to reduce the travel time as part of the programme. Permanent Inland Water Transport (IWT) Terminal will also be constructed at Jogighopa, Assam.   

Punjab establishes its 1st solar-powered water supply project in Jalandhar

Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Department under Government of Punjab has established the 1st solar-powered water supply project of the state in Jalandhar. The project has been implemented on pilot basis under ‘Har Ghar Paani, Har Ghar Safai’ Mission of the state government launched on 1st February, 2021. It will benefit 102 households of Talwara and 141 households of Muradpur and Jagrawan village. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 67.71 lakhs. The project aims to reduce the dependency of the farmers on electricity.

PM Modi lays foundation stone of Oil & Gas Projects in Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stones of important Oil and Gas Projects in Tamil Nadu during his visit. He laid the foundation stone of Cauveri Basin Refinery at Nagapattinam and inaugurated the 143 kilometer long Ramanathapuram-Thootukudi Section of Natural Gas Pipeline. He also inaugurated the Gasoline De-Sulphurisation Unit at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, Manali. The key projects will improve the socio-economic status of the region and promote the government’s Atma Nirbhar Urja initiative.

Chandigarh becomes the 1st UT of India to launch app for monitoring carbon footprint

Joint Capital of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh has become the 1st Union Territory (UT) of India to launch application for monitoring the carbon footprints of the residents. The app has been named as ‘Carbon Watch’. It has been developed by the Department of Environment and Forest under the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The app will provide ways to cut down individual carbon footprint. The app will also provide information on national and global carbon footprint. The app will categorize the users on the basis of ‘Chandigarh’ and ‘Out of Chandigarh’.

Chenab Valley of Jammu & Kashmir celebrates Kanchoth Festival

Age-old Kanchoth festival was celebrated in the Chenab Valley of Jammu & Kashmir during the Shukla Paksh of Magh month as per Indian calendar. The three-day festival started on 14th February, 2021. The festival is mainly celebrated by the followers of Nag Culture as they believe that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married on the same occasion of Gauri Tritiya which falls on the Shukla Paksha of Magh month. It is also believed that Goddess Parvati insisted Lord Shiva for a throne made of snow as a wedding gift.  

PM Modi lays the foundation stone of Maharaja Suheldeo’s memorial in Uttar Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Maharaja Suheldeo’s memorial and statue at Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. The foundation stone was laid on the occasion of the 112th birth anniversary of Maharaja Suheldeo. Maharaja Suheldeo is remembered for defeating Mahmud Gazhni’s nephew, Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masud at Bahraich in 1034 CE (11the Century). Apart from that, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the development work on the Chittaura Lake in the same district to promote tourism in the area.

Sarbananda Sonowal lays foundation stone of the 1st Skill University of Eastern India

Assam CM, Sarbananda Sonowal has laid foundation stone of the 1st Skill University of Eastern India and in Darrang District. It aims to provide training to over 10,000 students from 12 disciplines. The estimated budget for the construction of the university is Rs. 1000 crores. It is the 3rd Skill University of India which may start from 2026. The university intends to sign MoUs with England, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Taiwan and Germany. Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Haryana is the 1st Skill University of India.  

Mamta Banerjee launches ‘Maa’ scheme in West Bengal

West Bengal CM, Mamta Banerjee launched the ‘Maa’ Scheme for providing meals at Rs. 5/- to the poor and destitute. The state government has sanctioned Rs. 100 crores for providing cooked meals at a highly subsidized rate. The value of meals provided will be of Rs. 20 per plate out which the government will bear Rs. 15 for every plate. The meal will consist of Rice, Dal, Vegetable and Egg curry and will be served on first-come-first-served basis. The meals will be provided at the government canteens from 1 PM to 3 PM every day.

Madhya Pradesh celebrates the 3-day Mandu festival

The 3-day Mandu festival was celebrated at the Dhar District of Madhya Pradesh from 13th to 15th February, 2021. The theme of the festival was ‘Khojne Mein Kho Jao (Get lost while searching)’. The festival was inaugurated by Usha Thakur, the Culture and Tourism Minister of Madhya Pradesh. She also inaugurated Fossils Museum and Dino Adventure Park in Dhar on the same occasion. The newly inaugurated Dinosaur Park is the 1st modern fossil park of India. The park will exhibit 24 eggs and other newly found fossils of the dinosaurs.

Yogi Adityanath launches ‘UP Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana 2021’

Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath has launched ‘UP Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana 2021’ for providing free-of-cost coaching for competitive exams. The aspirants will be provided free coaching for UPSC, PCS, NDS, CDS, NEET and JEE at the Government Coaching Centers across the state. It will be directly supervised by Yogi Adityanath. The scheme will help the students in their preparation for various competitive examinations without worrying about their financial condition. In the 1st phase of the scheme, coaching centers will be set up at the divisional level and later the centers will be opened at the district level.

Jagdeep Dhankar inaugurates 11th Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav in West Bengal

Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankar inaugurated the 11th edition of Rashtriya Sanksriti Mahotsav at the Cooch Behar Palace, Cooch Behar of West Bengal. Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav has been scheduled from 14th to 28th February, 2021. It will be held at Cooch Behar, Darjeeling and Mursidabad from 14th to 16th, 22nd to 24th and 27th to 28th February respectively. It is the flagship programme organized by the Ministry of Culture which comes under the ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ Programme. Minister of State for Culture & Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel was also present at the inauguration ceremony.

Jammu & Kashmir to get India’s 1st Impact-based Flood Forecasting System

Jammu & Kashmir has collaborated with United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA) for working on a joint project on ‘Impact Based Flood Forecasting System’ using Earth Observation (EO) satellite data. Under the project, India’s 1st Impact-based Flood Forecasting System will be set up in Jammu & Kashmir. The joint project will be administered by the National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP) of UKSA and will be implemented by Sayers & Partners (SPL), D-Orbit and HR Wallingford in collaboration with Oxford University. The Impact Based Flood Forecasting System will help the J & K government in minimizing loss of life and property during the floods.

Bihar partners with UNEP to achieve Climate Resilience and sustainability by 2040

Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) has signed an MoU with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for developing a framework for the adoption of low-carbon development pathway and achieve climate resilience by 2040. Bihar has become the 1st state in the country to sign any agreement with UNEP for climate resilience. UNEP will assist Bihar in the preparation of Green House Gas Inventory (GHG) and will develop Climate Impact Vulnerability Assessments. UNEP will also revise the State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC) of Bihar

Meghalaya Police partners with SBI for implementing e-Challan

Meghalaya’s Police Department has signed an MoU with State Bank of India (SBI) for the implementation of e-Challan in the jurisdiction area of Shillong Traffic Police (STP). The e-Challan system is a digital traffic enforcement solution that will be used for imposing penalties on the violators of the traffic rules. The e-Challan system has been integrated with SARATHI & VAHAN applications under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. It will help traffic officials in gathering information about the violators and challans will be generated digitally.

Maharashtra government collaborates with Flipkart for boosting Small Scale Enterprises

Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC) and Maharashtra State Khadi & Village Industries Board (MSKVIB) have signed an MoU with Indian e-Commerce giant, Flipkart for boosting Small Scale Enterprises, artisans, weavers, craftsmen of the state under the Samarth initiative. The MoU will help the artisans in displaying their hallmark products like wooden toys, Paithani sarees, Khadi etc. This will eradicate the entry barriers for the local artisans by providing them time-bound incubation support. It will create ways to increase trade and business opportunities.

Haryana government partners with eBay and 2 others for boosting the global outreach of the state

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department of Haryana Government has signed an MoU with Power2SME, Trdeindia.com and eBay for taking the SMEs of the state to the global market. This move will help the artisans making traditional products get fair prices for their work. All the three e-Commerce companies will provide training and organize workshops across all the Districts of Haryana and make the entrepreneurs aware of the benefits of listing their products online. It will strengthen the MSME ecosystem of Haryana which consists of more than 2 lakh MSMEs.

Uttarakhand government to establish Science City in Dehradun

Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) will establish Science City in the Jhajhra area, Dehradun in collaboration with National Council of Science Museums (NCSM). An MoU has been signed between the Government of India (GoI) and Government of Uttarakhand for the establishment of Science City worth Rs. 173 crores. The Science City will be a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Science and Communication which will advance the scientific culture of the area as well as the country. A sum of Rs. 88 crores will be provided by GoI for the construction of the Science City and the rest will be paid by the Uttarakhand government.

Uttar Pradesh to introduce 16-digit Unicode for landholding identification

Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a new system of issuing 16-digit unicodes to the landholdings for their identification. The unicodes will be used inquire about the disputes related to a particular land and protect the owners of the landholdings from the fraudsters. The unicodes will be issued by the Revenue department of Uttar Pradesh and the disputed plots will be demarcated by the Revenue court with the help of the computerized management system. The 16 digit code consists of population of the land, identity of the land, number of divisions and category of the land.

Karnataka Government signs MoU with IETO for Sustainable Development Goals

Karnataka government has signed an MoU with Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) for the successful and effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the state. The MoU was signed between Ms Shalini Rajneesh (IAS), Principal Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka and Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of IETO. The MoU will improve the ranking of the state at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and will help Karnataka achieve all the 17 SDGs by 2030.

Odisha Cabinet approves the implementation of ‘REWARD’ project

Odisha Cabinet led by its CM, Naveen Patnaik has approved the proposal for implementation of the ‘Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development’ (REWARD) project. The objective of the project is to ensure efficient water management and enhanced cropping area in the state. The project will be financially assisted by the World Bank. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 500 crores out of which Rs. 350 crores will be granted by the World Bank. The project will be implemented for 6 years starting from April, 2021. The REWARD project will be implemented in 7 districts of Odisha.

Kerala government launches ‘Kerala Knowledge Mission’

Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan launched the ‘Kerala Knowledge Mission’ at Thiruvananthapuram. The objective of the mission is to transform Kerala into a knowledge economy by encouraging innovative ideas and coordinating knowledge initiatives & making the youth equipped with new skills. The ‘Kerala Knowledge Mission’ is headed by Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) and will be supported by Kerala Startup Mission and ICT Academy. ‘Digital Workforce Management System Kerala’ was also launched as a part of the mission.

Central Govt. to invest Rs. 400 crores for transforming Goa into a fisheries hub

Government of India is investing Rs. 400 crores for transforming Goa into the 1st fisheries hub of India. It was officially announced by the Union Minister of Fisheries, Giriraj Singh. He also added that a sum of Rs. 41 crores has already been sanctioned for the initiation of the project under the Pradhan Mantri Matasya Sampada Yojana. Goa has been selected for India’s 1st fisheries hub because it has the requisite coastline, saline khazan lands and inland waterways suitable for producing large quantities of fish in the country. 

Vijayanagara becomes the 31st District of Karnataka

Vijayanagara has been made a separate District after bifurcating Ballari (Bellari) district to make Vijaynagara as 31st district of Karnataka. Vijaynagara district will have 6 taluks namely- Hoovina, Kotturu, Hadagali and Harapanahalli, Hagaribommanahalli, Kudligi and Hospete. Vijaynagara has been made a separate district by exercising Sub-Section (4) of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.  Ballari district will now have 5 taluks namely Sanduru, Kampli, Siraguppa, Kurugodu and Ballari. Bifurcation of Ballari was approved by the state cabinet in November 2020.

Manipur government launches LoumiConnect App along with new organic products

Manipur government has launched LoumiConnect Application for connecting farmers with Agriculture and Horticulture experts. The app will help the farmers of Manipur in producing organic products. Manipur CM, Nongthomban Biren Singh also launched a new range of organic products including King Chilli powder, ginger spice box, chakhao ladoo box, dry kiwi, black rice flour, black rice flakes, sachets of organic turmeric. N Biren Singh launched 7 utility vehicles and nursery items to 7 farming societies under Eastern Border Areas Development Authority (EBADA).

Ladakh gets India’s 1st ever Geothermal Project at Puga

India’s 1st geothermal field development project will be established at the Puga village of Ladakh. A tripartite agreement between Ladakh Union Territory Administration of Ladakh, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHC) has been signed for the construction of the project. Hot springs, mud pools, sulphur and borax deposits were found by the Team of Researchers in 2018. The project will help Ladakh in achieving Carbon-neutrality and Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs). The electrical energy generated from the project will be supplied to the neighboring villages and the warm water will be used for space heating.

Haryana and Switzerland join hands for sharing expertise in Dairy, Skill Development & Tourism sector

Government of Haryana has collaborated with Switzerland for sharing expertise in skill development, dairy and tourism sector. Both the counterparts are looking forward to sign MoUs for teacher-student and cultural exchange programmes. It will strengthen bilateral ties between India and Switzerland. At present, 24 Swiss companies are operational in Haryana providing employment to 16,600 people. Haryana is among the 5 Indian states where the Swiss companies have got themselves established. Around 10 % business of the Swiss Companies is established in Haryana.

Goa signs MoU with CII for establishing Model Career Center in the state

Government of Goa has signed an MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for establishing a Model Career Centre (MCC) in the state. The objective of the MoU is to guide the youth of Goa in finding suitable employment opportunities. MCC will be based on an online service through which an employer will be able to select the best available candidates for the jobs. Workshops and Job Fairs will also be conducted to evaluate the employability of the youth of Goa.  MCC will also provide Counselling and Training to the job seeking youth to polish their skills.

‘Mukhyamantri Vigyan Pratibha Pariksha’ has been approved by Delhi Cabinet

Science Scholarship Scheme- ‘Mukhyamantri Vigyan Pratibha Pariksha’ has been approved by Delhi Cabinet. As per the proposed scheme, a sum of Rs. 5,000 will be provided as science scholarship to top 1,000 meritorious students of 9th Standard studying in the schools of Delhi. The scheme will enhance the quality of science education at Secondary School level. The students who will score above 60 % will be eligible to appear in the examination and a relaxation of 5 % will be given to the students belonging to the SC, ST, PH and OBC category.

Himachal Pradesh becomes the 1st state in India to inaugurate and implement e-Cabinet in Shimla

Himachal Pradesh has become the 1st state in India to inaugurate and implement e-cabinet in Shimla for making end-to-end processing of cabinets paperless. The e-cabinet was inaugurated by Himachal Pradesh CM, Jai Ram Thakur and it has been developed by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Himachal Pradesh. e-Cabinet will also support effective monitoring of implementation of cabinet decisions. e-Cabinet has also been developed for viewing from mobile and tablets. The signing of the documents will be done via OTP-based digital signature.  

Odisha to get India’s 1st Thunderstorm Research Testbed at Balasore

India Meteorological Department (IMD) will set up India’s 1st Thunderstorm Research Testbed at Balasore in collaboration with Ministry of Earth Science, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Development Organization Defense Research (DRDO). The research testbed will be a network of observational systems and the subsidiaries will be later installed in North Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand. The Thunderstorm Research Testbed will be set up with an objective of reducing loss of life and property due to lightning in the Odisha and Eastern states.

Uttarakhand’s Lakhwar Electricity Project gets approved by Ministry of Environment

Lakhwar Electricity Project on Yamuna River in Dehradun, Uttarakhand has been approved by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. The Lakhwar Electricity Project will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5747.17 crores. It will have a production capacity of 572.54 million units per year. The project will also supply drinking and irrigation water to Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The dam has a capacity to store 330 metric cusec meters of additional water.

Maharashtra Cabinet shows green light to ‘CM Water Conservation Programme’

Maharashtra Cabinet led by CM Uddhav Thackeray has approved the ‘Chief Minister Water Conservation Programme’ worth Rs. 1340 crores. The programme will be implemented by the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Government of Maharashtra for 3 years starting from April, 2021. Under the programme, repair and restoration of the water bodies of Maharashtra and increase the irrigation capacity. The programme will increase the number of water storage structures to around 7,916. The Vigilance and Quality Control Team of the Department of Soil and Water Conservation will periodically inspect the proper implementation of the programme.

Assam’s Majuli gets the first Heliport of the state

Assam CM, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the first Heliport of the state in Majuli District. The Heliport has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 50 lakhs. Majuli is the largest river island of the world. The Helipad has been established in the district with an aim to boost the tourism in the region. The heliport has a capacity of landing 3 helicopters simultaneously. A guest house will also be constructed at the Heliport for providing lodging facilities to the tourists. Assam government has already started the repair work of the roads connecting Majuli to enhance better road connectivity of the area.

Kejriwal launches ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign to promote the usage of electric vehicles

Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal has launched ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign to encourage the people of Delhi towards adopting electric vehicles for their mobility needs. Delhi government aims to make the proportion of electric vehicles in total vehicle registrations in Delhi to 25 % by 2024. During the 6-week campaign, Delhi government will use only electric vehicles for its mobility. The objective of the campaign is to make people aware of the advantages of electric vehicles over fossil-fuel powered vehicles and make Delhi pollution-free.  

State Election Commission of Andhra Pradesh rolls-out ‘e-Watch’ app

The State Election Commission (SEC) of Andhra Pradesh has rolled-out ‘e-Watch’ mobile application for receiving complaints regarding the irregularities in the Gram Pachayat Elections. Andhra Pradesh will hold its Gram Panchayat Elections from 21st February, 2021. The application has been jointly developed by State Election Commission and Reliance Jio. SEC has also set up a call center to address the poll-related complaints in the Gram Panchayat Elections. The app was launched by the State Elections Commissioner, N. Ramesh Kumar.

Punjab’s 1st Central Water Treatment Plant becomes operational

Punjab’s 1st Central Water Treatment plant at Moga has started supplying drinking water to 85 villages of the District. The Central Water Treatment Plant has been set up at Daudhar village of Moga district. It has a capacity of purifying 50 million liters per day which will be brought from the Abohar Canal Branch. The plant has been built by Larsen & Toubro (L & T) and will be maintained by the company for the next 10 years. Around 332 km of pipeline has been laid for covering 85 villages and the pipelines are fed by 161 water tanks of the plant.

Maharashtra CM launches two schemes to promote innovative start-ups

Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackrey launched Intellectual Property Rights Scheme and Quality Testing & Certification Scheme for supporting the innovative start-ups in seeking IT patents for their innovations. Maharashtra State Innovation Society (MSInS) under the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will implement the schemes. The Intellectual Property Rights scheme will provide Rs. 2 lakhs for Domestic IPR applications and Rs. 10 lakhs for International IPR applications to 125 to 150 startups. The Quality Testing and Certification will provide Rs. 2 lakhs for the process of quality testing and certification.

Chandigarh gets India’s 1st Amputee Clinic at PGIMER

India’s 1st Amputee Clinic has been inaugurated in the campus of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The PGI Amputee Clinic was inaugurated by the Director of PGIMER, Professor Jagat Ram. The clinic will provide improvised health care facilities especially modulated for the amputated patients. Amputation is the removal of limb by surgery, trauma or medical illness for controlling spread of any disease of the limb. The amputee clinic will have specialists from various departments such as prosthetics, orthopedics, physiotherapists, psychologists etc.

Punjab government launches ‘Har Ghar Paani, Har Ghar Safai’ Mission

Punjab government has launched ‘Har Ghar Paani, Har Ghar Safai’ Mission for providing potable water supply to all the households in the rural areas by 2022. The mission was launched by Punjab’s Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh on 1st February, 2021. He also launched the Mega Surface Water Supply Scheme that will cover 85 villages in Moga District. The scheme has been funded by NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), Jal Jeevan Mission, World Bank and Punjab government.

Assam government launches ‘Pragyan Bharti’ and ‘Bhasha Gaurab’ scheme for the students and literary bodies

Assam government has launched the ‘Pragyan Bharti’ and ‘Bhasha Gaurab’ scheme for the college students and literary bodies. The schemes aim to encourage the young generation to strive for knowledge through education and also to provide financial support to the writers & indigenous ‘Sahitya Sabhas’. Under the ‘Bhasha Gaurab’ scheme, the government of Assam will provide Rs. 43 crores to the ‘Sahitya Sabhas’ which will then distribute the money among the literary writers. So far, 600 have been given Rs. 50,000 to help their literary activities.
