  • Through this, about ₹1,000 crores is lent to 10 lakh people

Union Environment Ministry has  approved the  Construction Of Rs 1,100 Crore Song Dam Drinking Water Project In Dehradun

  • The Union Territory of Ladakh has got the largest solar power project set up under the Centre’s ‘Make In India’ initiative at Leh IAF station.
  • This is to provide sustainable energy alternatives to fossil fuels and traditional methods of energy generation.
  • The project namely ‘Provision of Solar Photo Voltaic Powerplant 1.5 MW’ has been completed within 12 months well before the completion deadline of March 31, 2021.

India's first 'Internet of Things enabled Smart Trolleys'

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has introduced the Internet of Things-enabled Smart Trolleys.

Key Point:

  •  In line with the flagship Digital India Programme of the Government of India, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has introduced the Internet of Things (IoT) enabled Smart baggage trolleys’
  • This airport becomes India’s first Airport to deploy IoT for tracking and maintaining the availability of baggage trolleys for passengers in real-time across the airport. 
  • The Airport has deployed LoRa (Long Range) IoT platform for the Airport Baggage Trolley Project. 
  • The entire fleet of 3000 baggage trolleys has been enabled with IoT technology.
  •  With this technology in place, there will be a substantial reduction in the waiting time of passengers for baggage trolleys and will ensure its availability of insufficient numbers in real-time.
  • Trolley management and replenishment will be based on the requirement at various areas across the airport enhancing efficiency and passenger experience while making way for smooth operations as well. 
  • With an inbuilt alert mechanism, in case of any trolleys carried out of a “no airport zone” area, it generates an alert message tipping off the location for necessary action which can then be taken to retrieve. 

Infrastructure Development Project in Himachal Pradesh

Uttarakhand wildlife board clears proposal to a de-notify elephant reserve

ABHAYAM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched ABHAYAM Passenger App,

Objective:

For the safety of women and girls traveling in cabs and auto-rickshaws

Key Point:

  • The Abhayam app can be used for women to travel safely in autos and cabs and the device will be installed in autos and cabs across the state.
  • The Abhayam App will be monitored by the Transport Department. 
  • The total cost of this project is estimated at Rs 138.48 Crore
  • Of this, the Central government has allocated Rs 80.09 crore to the State under the Nirbhaya scheme.
  • The state government has to allocate Rs 55.39 crore.
  •  The Department of Transport aims to complete the project by November next year by phasing out tracking devices for luxury vehicles in the state.
  • Initially, the Internet of Things devices will be set up in a thousand autos in Visakhapatnam. 
  • After that, it will be implemented in Tirupati. 
  • The tracking devices will be installed in commercial vehicles.
  • Those traveling in autos and cabs are required to install the ‘Abhayam’ mobile application on their mobile.
  • Women I possession of smartphones can identify the whereabouts of their vehicle by GPS and send the relevant vehicle number from the mobile app in case they encounter any difficulties in their journey.
  • Passengers who do not have a “smartphone” can notify the Command Control Center by pressing the panic button on the IoT device attached to the vehicle. 
  • That immediately sends information to nearby police officers and arrests.
  • Radio Frequency Identity Technology (RFID) cards are fitted to drivers’ licenses after IoT-based boxes are fitted to autos and cabs.

Tamil Nadu bans online betting games

Tamil Nadu Governor, Banwarilal Purohit Nadu has promulgated ordinance to ban online betting games that involve electronic transfer of funds and distributing prize money. This step has been taken by the Tamil Nadu government after observing an increase in suicides due to heavy loss in the online betting games.

Key Highlights-

  • Andhra Pradesh has also banned the online betting applications and games recently.
  • Puducherry government has also written to the Centre requesting a similar action on such applications and games.
  • As per the ordinance, a fine of Rs. 5000 and six-months of jail will be imposed on the individuals involved in such activities from now onwards.
  • The individuals involved in operating such businesses will be fined with Rs. 10,000 and will face an imprisonment of 2-years.

Arunachal Pradesh becomes the best state in sex ratio

As per the Annual Report on ‘Vital Statistics on India based on Civil Registration System 2018’, Arunachal Pradesh has been named the best state in terms of Sex ratio. Arunachal Pradesh has a sex ratio of 1084.

Key Highlights-

  • Sex Ratio is defined as number of female births per 1000 male births.
  • Arunachal Pradesh is followed by Nagaland, Mizoram, Kerala and Karnataka.
  • Nagaland, Mizoram, Kerala and Karnataka have sex ratios of 965, 964, 963 and 957 respectively.
  • Vivek Joshi, The Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India, Ministry of Home Affairs released the report.
  • As per the report, Manipur, Lakshadweep and Daman & Diu have the lowest sex ratios in India.
  • Manipur, Lakshadweep and Daman & Diu have sex ratios of 757, 839 and 877 respectively.
  • Low sex-ratio leads to human trafficking and violence against both men and women.

Asia’s first fully solar powered textile mill will be established at Parbhani district of Maharashtra. It was announced by the Chairman of Jai Bhawani Women Cooperative Textile Mill on 17th November 2020.

  • The new solar plant will create many employment opportunities for the women.
  • The Solar Textile Mill will be spread on 30 acres of land.
  • Cotton will be processed into clothes after ginning, pressing, weaving and spinning of cotton.
  • Raw cotton for the mill will be procured from the farmers of Parbhani district itself.
  • The estimated cost in the establishment of the solar textile mill is Rs. 100 crores.

Kolkata gets World’s first Tram Library for children

World’s first-of-its-kind tram-library has been launched in Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal on the occasion of National Children’s Day. The library-on-tram has been jointly launched by West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) and Apeejay Anand’s Children’s Library.

Key Highlights-

  • Only the passengers younger than 18 years qill be allowed to board the library-tram car.
  • The titles and books for different categories and age groups will be curated by Oxford Bookstores.
  • The library on wheels will run between Shyambazar, Espalanade and Esplanade Gariahat connecting North and South Kolkata.
  • Maina Bhagat is the Director of Apeejay Oxford Bookstores.
  • The tram-library has been designed to give it a creative look that will attract young readers to the moving library.

Madhya Pradesh Governement launches AtmaNirbhar Roadmap

Madhya Pradesh Government has virtually launched a roadmap for achieving the state of self-reliance by 2023. The roadmap has been named as AtmaNirbhar Madhya Pradesh 2023. It was launched by CM Shivaraj Singh Chauhan.

Key Highlights-

  • A total of 4 seminars have been conducted on education, health, good governance and physical infrastructure for preparing the roadmap.
  • Special emphasis will be given to the health and education sectors.
  • It is the first state to announce a time-bound roadmap under the AtmaNirbhar Bharat Scheme.
  • Apart from health and education sectors, major priority will be given to the Economy and Employment.
  • The roadmap proposes to strengthen the MSMEs and the cottage industries for boosting the states economy.

Puducherry Government launches free breakfast scheme for the school students.

Puducherry government has launched Dr. Kalaignar Mu Karunanidhi Kaalai Sitrundi Thittam Breakfast Scheme for providing fee breakfast to the students studying in the government schools and government aided schools.

Key Highlights-

  • Around 80,000 students studying in 419 government schools will be benefitted by this scheme.
  • The scheme has been named after the DMK Leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Karunanidhi.
  • A sum of Rs. 6 crores has been allocated for the proper implementation of the scheme.
  • The scheme was formally launched on 12th November 2020 as a gift to the school going children on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Delhi launches app for transportation of COVID-19 patients

Delhi Government has launched Jeevan Seva App for the safe and secure transportation of COVID-19 patients. The announcement was made by the Health Minister of Delhi, Satyendra Jain on 12th November 2020.

Key Highlights-

  • The app will facilitate safe and timely transport of the patients suffering from COVID-19 to the quarantine centers and health care facilities.
  • The application has been launched in collaboration with EVERA Cab services. EVERA will cater to the ambulance requirements through its online network of the cabs across Delhi.
  • EVERA aims to make the transportation of patients hassle-free.
  • The app will enable the pick and drop service and will priorities the serious patients that need immediate medical attention.
  • The ambulances can be tracked via real-time GPS tracking which will automatically trace the location of the patients who need immediate pick-up.
  • The vehicles will be sanitized after every ride and the driver will be dressed in PPE suit.

Jharkhand State Assembly passes Sarna code for the tribals

Jharkhand State Assembly has passed a resolution on ‘Sarna Code’ for the tribal people of Jharkhand state belonging to the Sarna Religion. The resolution was unanimously passed in the one-day special assembly session regarding the inclusion of Sarna religion as a separate religion in the 2021 census.

Key Highlights-

  • Tribal communities of Jharkhand follow Sarna religion and don’t consider them Hindus.
  • Sarna followers worship the nature and believe in protecting trees and forests.
  • As per the 2011 Census, around 50 lakh tribals registered under Sarna religion whose code was not mentioned at that time.
  • The religion is currently categorized in Others category.
  • Sarna Code will be mentioned in a separate column in the Census 2021 if the resolution is approved by the Central Government.

Odisha State Government adds fish nutrition in the Anganwadi Diet Chart

Odisha Government has introduced fish and fish based products in the Anganwadi Diet Chart recently to curb the issue of malnutrition in the children from low-income group families in the state.

Programme involved- Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP)

Institutions involved- Department of Women and Child Development, and Mission Shakti (WCD & MS) of Odisha and WorldFish.

Key Highlights-

  • The fish and fish based products have been added to the diet chart of Anganwadi under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) on pilot basis in the Mayurbhanj district.
  • An agreement has been signed between WCD & MS of Odisha and WorldFish for technical assistance for a period in 5 years.
  • United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will support the project financially.
  • WorldFish is an international Non-Profit Organization (NPO) that utilizes the potential of Fisheries and Aquaculturein poverty and hunger reduction in developing countries. It is has its headquarters in Penang, Malaysia 

NDA breaches the ‘122’ mark, retains the power in Bihar

Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance has secured more than 122 seats to ensure the required majority in the Bihar Assembly Elections. NDA has retained the administrative powers by defeating Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) led ‘Grand Alliance’.

Key Highlights –

  • The Bihar Assembly election was a close contest between NDA and the Grand Alliance who secured 110 seats against 125 seats by NDA in the 243 member state assembly.
  • BJP from NDA secured 74 seats against the 19 seats of Congress from ‘Mahagathbandhan’
  • Nitish Kumar of Janta Dal United or JD(U) will be the Chief Minister of Bihar.
  • JD (U) secured 71 seats
  • Tejasvi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) secured maximum of 75 seats.
  • NDA included BJP and JD (U) and the Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan included RJD and Congress.
  • Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) led by Chirag Paswan left NDA just before the elections to contest against Janta Dal (United).

  • During the festival, 16 tribes come together at a place to celebrate the festival by performing traditional dance forms.

  • Nagaland is well known for the Hornbill Festival
  • The festival has been named after a colorful bird called as Indian Hornbill found in the forests of Nagaland, which are also prevalent in the folklores of the state.

 

National Water Awards 2019 - Tamil Nadu declared as the best state for water management

Tamil Nadu has been declared as the best state for water management and conservation in the 2nd National Water Awards-2019. The awards will be presented to the PWD Secretary, K Manivasan in the 2 day virtual event starting from 11th December 2020.

  • Tamil Nadu has been declared the best in the ‘Normal’ category of states.
  • A total of 98 Awards in 16 categories will be given to the respective winners of each category.
  • The event will be attended by Venkaiah Naidu (Vice President), Gajendra Singh Shekhawat (Jal Shakti Minister) and Prakash Javedkar (Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change).
  • National Water Awards 2018 was organized at New Delhi on 25th February 2019.

Tezpur Litchi of Assam gets a GI tag

Assam’s Tezpur Litchi has been given a Geographical Indication Tag under Horticultural Products (Fruits) for its unique qualities and characteristics. The GI Tag will be valid till 28th August 2023.

Announced by- Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under Union Ministry of Commerce and Industries.

 Key Highlights-

  • Litchi (Litchi chinensis) is a subtropical specie.
  • Tezpur Litchi is famous for its juicy pulp, pleasant flavor, appearance and Vitamin C content.
  • A Geographical Indication (GI) tag is given to any material, product or commodity associated with a particular geographical area. GI Tag is given to any commodity for its unique qualities that can’t be noticed in the same commodity from any other geographical area.
  • GI Tag will prevent the cultivation of Tezpur Litchi outside Tezpur.

Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister inaugurates India’s longest motorable suspension bridge.

Uttarakhand’s CM, Trivendra Singh Rawat has inaugurated Dobra-Chanthi Bridge in Tehri-Garhwal District of Uttarakhand to mark the state’s 21st Foundation Day. It is the longest motorable single lane suspension bridge in India.

Key Highlights-

  • The bridge is 725 meters long and is built at a cost of Rs. 2.96 crores.
  • The bridge will connect Pratap Nagar Town with Tehri Garhwal district headquarters, which will reduce the travel time from 5 hours to 1.5 hours.
  • The bridge is built across the Tehri Lake.
  • Uttarakhand celebrates its foundation day on 9th November every year.
  • Uttarakhand became a state on 9th November 2000 and was named as Uttaranchal at the time of its formation.

Kerala CM launches India’s first Solar Powered Miniature Train

Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan has launched as solar powered miniature train at Veli Tourist Village, of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 10 crores.

Key Highlights-

  • The solar powered train project comes under Veli Tourist Village Development Project.
  • The estimated cost of the Veli Tourist Village Development Project is Rs. 60 crores.
  • The train has been designed like a vintage steam engine with three bogies.
  • It will cover 2.5 km with 45 passengers at a time.
  • Veli Tourist Village is located in the outskirts of the capital city Thiruvananthapuram.

Chhattisgarh Government launches two new schemes

Two new schemes- Fortified Rice Distribution and English Medium School Schemes have been launched by the Chhattisgarh Government on the occasion of Rajyotsav.

Schemes Launched-

  • Fortified Rice Distribution Scheme
  • Swami Atmanand Government English Medium School Scheme

Key Highlights-

  • The Fortified Rice Distribution Scheme will be implemented on pilot basis in Kondagaon district. The scheme has been introduced for eradicating Malnutrition and Anemia in the people especially in the toddlers and women.
  • The fortified rice grains will be distributed through Fair Price Shops (FPS). Fortified rice is enriched with nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B-12 and Folic acid.
  • Swami Atmanand English Medium School Scheme has been launched for establishing English Medium schools for providing education in English for keeping up with the current industry requirements.
  • The 130-crore rupee project will set up 52 English Medium Schools in the state.
