Highlights of 51st WEF Annual Meeting 2021

The 51st edition of the Annual Meeting of 2021 conducted by World Economic Forum (WEF) was named as ‘The Davos Agenda 2021’. It was virtually held from 25th to 29th January, 2021. The theme of the meeting was ‘A Crucial Year to Rebuild Trust’. The participants of the WEF’s Annual meeting included 1,500 Government & Civil Society Leaders from 70 countries. Heads of the Government & State like Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi and others addressed the meeting. PM Modi highlighted that the Indian government is focusing on the 4th Industrial Revolution which will use technology for the betterment of humanity.

Netherland hosts Climate Adaptation Summit 2021 virtually

The Government of Netherlands hosted the Climate Adaptation Summit virtually in collaboration with Global Center on Adaptation, Amsterdam on 25th January, 2021. The comprehensive Adaptation Action Agenda (AAA) was launched at the summit, which sets out commitments to accelerate action on climate adaptation through partnership by sharing experience, monitoring, guidance and promotion. The CAS 2021 had 4 themes namely- Locally Led Adaptation, Youth Leadership, Finance & Investment and Accelerating African Adaptation. India was represented at the summit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Turkey hosts 17th Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting 2021

Turkey hosted the 17th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting 2021 virtually on 21st January, 2021. India was represented by Secretary (East) Ministry of External Affairs, Ms. Riva Ganguly Das. She emphasized that Indian government is focusing on promotion of tourism as a part of its ‘Trade Tourism and Technology’ (3T) strategy. The theme of the meeting was ‘The New Normal and Safe and Healthy Tourism’. ESCAP is promoting smart connectivity along the Trans-Asian Railway Network and Asian Highway Network in collaboration with ACD.

Health Minister inaugurates the 7th Edition of MASCRADE 2021

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Varshan inaugurated the 7th edition of MASCRADE 21’ conference. MASCRADE stands for Movement Against Smuggled & Counterfeit Trade. It was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) from 21st to 22nd January, 2021. The objective of the conference was to provide a discussion platform on reducing smuggling, counterfeiting and flow of spurious drugs in the post-pandemic world. Dr. Harsh Vardhan stated that ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ can prove to be an effective tool in fighting illicit trading of drugs in the country.

Highlights of the 5th India-Singapore Defense Ministers Dialogue

The 5th edition of India-Singapore Defense Ministers Dialogue was held on 20th January, 2021 between the defense leaders of both the countries. India was represented by the Union Minister of Defense, Rajnath Singh whereas Singapore was represented by Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister of Defense. Both the nations have expressed their satisfaction with the progress made by both the countries in defense cooperation across all the three services even during the pandemic. Submarine Rescue Support Agreement was also signed between the Indian Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy. India’s Defense Secretary, Dr. Ajay Kumar was also present in the meeting.

Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurates India Digital Summit 2021

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the 15th edition of India Digital Summit virtually on 19th January, 2021. The 2-day summit was organized by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). The objective of the summit was to provide a platform for discussion for creating a new digital ecosystem. The theme of the summit was ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat- Start of the New Decade’. Several agendas on digital recharging of Small and Medium Businesses, digital policies from global perspective and nurturing Indian startups were discussed.

DPIIT and EU Commission holds IPR Dialogue 2021 virtually

The 1st edition of India-EU IPR Dialogue was held virtually on 19th January, 2021. It was jointly organized by India’s Department of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and European Union (EU) Commission for discussing business-related issues on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The IPR Dialogue was aimed at strengthening economic relations between both the countries and enhancing cooperation in the field of IPR. The IPR Dialogue 2021 was co-chaired by DPIIT Joint Secretary, Ravinder and Director General of Trade , EU, Carlo Pettinato.

Highlights of the 13th India-Vietnam Defense Security Dialogue

The 13th India-Vietnam Defense Security Dialogue was held virtually on 12th January, 2021. India’s delegation was headed by the Defense Secretary, Dr Ajay Kumar whereas Deputy Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh represented the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Both the counterparts exchanged their perspectives on the plan of action that emerged from the India-Vietnam Virtual Summit of December, 2020.  Both the countries reviewed the progress of the Cooperation of Defense Industry and Technology and agreed upon stronger commitment for elevated engagements between the armed forces of both the nations.

France organizes One Planet Summit 2021

France organized the 4th edition of One Planet Summit on 11th January, 2021 in collaboration with United Nations (UN) and World Bank. The virtual summit was organized for preparing negotiations for setting global biodiversity goals for the next decade. The theme of the summit was ‘Let’s act together for nature’.  The negotiations that took place in the One Planet Summit will be utilized at the UN Conference on Biodiversity to be held in China in October, 2021. The summit was opened by Antonio Guterres (General Secretary of UN), David Malpass (President of World Bank) and Emmanuel Macron (President of France).

Highlights of India-France Strategic Dialogue 2021

The Annual India-France Strategic Dialogue 2021 was held at New Delhi on 7th January, 2021. India was represented by National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval and France was represented by Diplomatic Advisor to French President, Emannuel Bonne. Both the counterparts discussed key issues related to the Maritime Security Co-operation in the Indo-Pacific Region, Counter-terrorism, Cyber security, Defense Sector and COVID-19 vaccination. India’s 8th stint at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was welcomed by France as the French delegates look positively towards India’s partnership in fighting terrorism.

Ramesh Pokhriyal inaugurates ‘EDUCON 2020’

The 2-day virtual International Akhand Conference ‘EDUCON 2020’ was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on 7th January, 2021. University Grants Commission (UGC), Chairman, Professor Dhirendra Pal Singh was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Ceremony. The 31-hour long marathon conference was attended by the global scholars who explored the possible uses of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in higher education for promoting quality education in India. The theme of EDUCON 2020 was ‘Envisioning Education for Transforming Youth to Restore Global Peace
