APJ Abdul Kalam: Remembering Missile Man of India

On 15 October 1931, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born in a Muslim family in Rameswaram district in Tamil Nadu.

In 1960, Abdul Kalam joined as an aeronautical scientist at DRDO after graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology.

Kalam was transferred to ISRO as project director, under his supervision India's first satellite SLV-3 was launched in 1980.

From 1992 to 1999 Abdul Kalam served as Chief Scientific Adviser for PMO Office and played key role in Pokhran nuclear tests.

On 25 July 2002, Abdul Kalam became the 11th President Of India, he was the 3rd president who received Bharat Ratna award.
