Born in Chennai on January 6, 1967 as A. S. Dileep Kumar, he came to known as A.R. Rahman after he converted to Islam.

A.R. Rahman started his career as a music director in 1992 with the Tamil film Roja, which was a huge success.

He has composed music for over 150 films across multiple languages, including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and English.

A.R. Rahman has won two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and several others.

He is known for his innovative and eclectic musical style, which combines Indian classical music with world music influences.

A.R. Rahman has also composed music for numerous stage productions, including The Lord of the Rings musical & Bombay Dreams.

He is also a philanthropist and has established the A.R. Rahman Foundation, which provides education and healthcare support.

A.R. Rahman has also acted in a few films and made a cameo appearance in the Hollywood film Million Dollar Arm.
