GR Gopinath, Man Who Made Flying Affordable To Millions

GR Gopinath is the founder of low cost airline Air Deccan. He is the man who made flying affordable for common man in India.

He spent eight years in the army and fought in the 1971-72 Bangladesh Liberation War.

The 2020 Indian Tamil-language film Soorarai Pottru was partly inspired by events from the life of Gopinath

In 2003, Gopinath founded Air Deccan, a low cost airline, which gave opportunity to millions to fly just with ₹1 ticket.

In May 2006, he was knighted with "Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur" the civilian award conferred by the French Government.

In 2007 Capt Gopinath sold his company to Kingfisher, owned by alcohol baron Vijay Mallya, who owned Kingfisher Airlines.
