How Sankranti Is Celebrated Across India?

Sankranti is celebrated as Magh Bihu in Assam, marking the end of harvesting season with lots of food, singing and music.

In Tamil Nadu the end of harvest is celebrated as Pongal, on the day they prepare sweet Pongal with freshly harvested rice.

The day marks 1st day of sun's transit to north giving it a name of Uttarayan celebrated in state of Gujrat by flying kite.

The day is celebrated as Onam in Kerala which also commemorates King Mahabali and Vamana it is one of the major festival.

To mark the end of winter the state of Punjab celebrates Lohri by lighting bonfires and offering fresh harvest to fire god.

End of winter & beginning of warmer days is celebrated as Makar Sankranti in state of Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh.

In state of Bihar & UP, Sankranti is celebrated by eating Dahi Chuda, Laai-Tilkut & Khichdi made of fresh harvest.
