Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is an Indian amateur boxer, politician, and former Member of Rajya Sabha.
Nicknamed, Magnificent Mary, she was the 1st female boxer to have won a medal in each of seven World Championships.
She became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 at Incheon.
On 25 April 2016, the President of India nominated her as member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian parliament.
In 2014, Priyanka Chopra portrayed Kom in Mary Kom, a hindi language biographical film about her life.
Kom is also an animal rights activist, and supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India.
