Hot chocolate is a delicious drink enjoyed by all over the world. The history of hot chocolate begins in ancient Mesoamerica.
The Maya and Aztecs used cacao beans to make a drink called xocolatl, which was a bitter, frothy beverage.
Hot chocolate was originally made with ground cocoa beans, water, wine, and chile peppers.
Swiss Miss, the company’s first instant cocoa with hot water, was launched in 1961.
The first European to encounter hot chocolate was explorer, Hernan Cortes, who arrived in Mexico in 1519.
Cortes was amazed by this drink and took some back to Spain, where it quickly became a hit at the royal court.
Hot chocolate remained a luxury drink for many years, until it was introduced to the wider public in the 18th century.
Today, it is enjoyed by people of all ages and religions, and has even been shown to have health benefits.
