5 Big Names Who Went Unsold In IPL 2022 Auctions

The 10 franchises purchased a total of 204 cricketers and invested Rs 551.70 crore in IPL Mega Auction 2022. Teams built their separate squads to the best of their abilities. Mumbai Indians bought Rs 15.25 crore for wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, making him the most costly purchase of the auction. On other hand, some major players were surprisingly unable to find a bidder for them. Let’s have a look at these five prominent cricketers who didn’t find any buyer.

In the IPL Mega Auction 2022, the Australian all-rounder unexpectedly had no owners. Since the 2014 series, Steve Smith has been a participant of the IPL game. He did, however, miss a few seasons in the interim. The right-handed batter has made 2485 runs at an average of 34.51 in 103 IPL matches thus far. In the league, he has also hit a century and 11 fifties.

His entire expertise could have been beneficial to some of the teams, but no one was willing to take a chance on him.

Shakib Al Hasan, a former Bangladesh captain, was one of the 76 cricketers who were left unsold in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Despite being ranked second in the ICC T20I rankings, he had no bidders at the starting price of Rs.2 crore. His disappointing performance in the IPL 2021 season may have impacted him. Shakib scored 47 runs in 8 matches for KKR and took only 4 wickets.

Shakib's wife, meanwhile, claimed in a post on Facebook that he was approached by several franchises, but his commitment to the national team for the South Africa tour prevented him from being available for the entire league. As a result, he was not in any of the teams' strategies.

The experienced overseas spinner is now 42 years old, and his starting price of Rs 2 crore may have been the cause of his auction failure. Even the previous year, Tahir was only given the opportunity to play one game for the Chennai Super Kings, in which he grabbed two wickets at an economy rate of 4.

In the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Eoin Morgan remained unsold. No franchises have expressed an interest in choosing England's captain. He had previously founded a basic cost of Rs. 1.5 crore for himself. Morgan was a player of the KKR in the previous edition and served as its captain.

In 17 games, the left-hander managed only 133 runs at an average of 11.08. Despite his evident leadership skills, his failures in 2021 definitely played a big role in team managements deciding not to buy him.

The left-hander is now ranked fourth in the IPL's all-time run scorers table. Suresh Raina, who scored 5528 runs in 205 IPL games, was unsuccessful in finding a buyer. In the run-getters list, he is only behind Kohli, Dhawan, and Sharma, and he has a higher average than Sharma, as well as a higher strike rate than the 3 cricketers above him.

Raina, who is 35 years old, appears to be in smooth condition, but his starting cost of Rs 2 crore may have concerned some teams. Raina again struggled mightily in the 2021 series, scoring only 160 runs in 12 games at a poor 17.77 average.
